5 Reasons Why I Volunteer For USMF: Bob Khairy

Hello everyone, my name is Bob Khairy. I started training Muaythai at a young age in Malaysia. When I moved to New York in 2012, I continued my martial arts training at Rebel Thaiboxing. In late 2019, I had the amazing opportunity to join the US Muaythai Federation (USMF) as a volunteer graphic designer for the media team. My family and I moved to Kota Bharu, Malaysia, in early 2021. Muaythai is very popular with the locals, so I can continue to train, get new ideas, and most importantly, continue to contribute to the USMF! Below are 5 reasons why I enjoy volunteering for USMF.

  1. I am proud to contribute to the Muaythai Community in the United States

Muaythai completely transformed my life. When you train with your team, you want to get better together. My career as a Muaythai graphic designer began when I helped design my gym’s logo, t-shirt, banner, and social media content. My opportunities grew as the coaches and gym members supported me.

As a result, I’ve had the opportunity to work with athletes, gyms, and brands worldwide. I have received tremendous community support and want to give back to the community by helping to grow the sport in the United States.

  1. I have learned so much about the development of American Muaythai

As a lifelong learner, I believe that volunteering for USMF gives me the experience and knowledge I need to meet IFMA/IOC standards for sport management. I have learned a lot about the organization’s workflows, operations, and what you are expected to do as a member of the staff.

I have also learned about rules/regulations, disciplines, event/fighter equipment, an international environment, ethical standards, and much more.

  1. I have strengthened my Muaythai network

My role on the USMF Media Team has allowed me to network with other committee members and athletes. Networking is a great way to learn about a community, and the USMF team is full of professionals. And believe me, the team is always happy to help!

It’s vital to stay involved in the team because you never know what positive effects your network can have.

  1. I can share my passion for art and design

Art and design have always been a part of my life. As a result of my interest, I went to design school and now work as a designer. Now I’m volunteering for one of the best Muaythai organizations in the world! Volunteering for USMF allows me to easily share my passion for art and design with others.

Volunteering can be a wonderful way to relax and recharge while also giving back to the community. It will provide you with a fresh flow of creativity and motivation, which you can then apply to your personal and professional life.

  1. I have improved my skills and am always learning how to do better

I’ve helped with micro/macro visual marketing tasks like banner printing, online flyer design, t-shirt design, and a variety of others. Each project teaches you something new while also teaching you how to manage it. I’ve improved my graphic design management, communication, and teamwork skills. My portfolio and confidence have both grown as a result of my volunteer work.

Under Jeff Dojillo, USMF’s Chief Brand Officer, I have made significant progress. Jeff has aided the USMF in branding and understanding the Muaythai culture and community in the United States. He introduced me to many wonderful members of the community as well as interesting design projects.
